*TOP DOG AND MY SICK PUPPY*
          November 15, 2008

Every year, the Southern California Dog Obedience Council holds the Top Dog competition. After tryouts, top teams from Bakersfield to San Diego compete in a team effort.

Today, there was everything from poodle clubs to dachshund clubs doing their best to help their team out. I was second to go in which was great since there were around Twenty-five dogs or so competing in Open. In AKC Obedience there are three levels, Novice, Open, and Utility. Giacomo and I were in Open. So I go in the ring and am very happy with his performance, but come out of the ring to find out that my rescue dog, Silly, is throwing up and acting lethargic. Great, of course crap like this happens on a big show day. So off I go to the nearest vet, which I am not happy about. Any one who knows me knows how terribly picky I am when it comes to my dogs. The last thing I am looking forward to, is trusting some one I have never met or researched. Aughhhh...I am feeling so annoyed on the drive over as if someone is forcing me to go. So I get there (its an emergency clinic) and of course it smells like a herd of transients just paraded through. I am desperately trying not to seem pretentious, but I think they saw me coming. The vet appears, casually asking me what the problem is. I explain that she seems depressed, and has thrown up repeatedly. He doesn't pet her or talk to her, just pokes and prods her all over. Blood work and xrays he says. As I guide her to the back room, I request to stay with her while the blood and xrays are being done(my vet lets me). I receive a flat "no". He drags her the rest of the way out, and I feel as though I am completely letting her down. It doesn't help that the vet walks with a limp and has a cane.(a bit horror movie, right?) Anyway, I pace in the waiting room until she finally comes out and I am informed that nothing wrong has been found. I speed back to the show after a team member calls telling me that I made the top four and I have to compete in the second heat. Despite all of my doggy drama, Giacomo does even better in the second heat, getting a score of 199.5 and taking first place!
So back to Silly, she seems better, and ate a few chunks of chicken breast which is incredibly relieving.
I think she will be fine, she just needs to spend some of her moms hard earned money now and then :-D
